Pentax K-r review

I have been waiting for this review a long time and it confirms all my own perceptions of the camera. I have shortlisted it along with the Sony A560 which is supposedly due in March, but so far no sign, any news on that? However the Sony A580 which is exactly the same as the A560 except for the megapixel count (16.2 v 14.2)has been out for quite some time. Are you planning a review of that camera in the near future? Then of course there is the impending replacement for the Nikon 5000. When will that be out? If you have any answers to any of these questions I would be obliged if you would let me know. Snapper.

Got one, bought it as a step up to DSLR from Fuji Compact, went with my gut feeling after a lot of research and am really impressed by the K-r.

Pentax have clearly demonstrated that there is life out side the Nikon and Canon obsessed editors of some magazines. The Kr has to be one of the easiest DSLR's to use and the menu is so easy to navigate. The standard kit lens is quite decent, but fit something like a Sigma 17-70 and the pictures. become 'stunning' The Kr is lovely to hold and with a feel of being well built and solid. High build quality. "K-r image quality consistently good especially on high I.S.O. A better kit lens than competitors. H.D.R. Ability to correct lens aberations (barrel/cushion) in camera. (Unique?)ability to save a .jpeg image as RAW after shot taken. Good bright viewfinder, high resolution LCD. Noise control very impressive. Very customisable. Easy to use. Loads of useful features. Excellent value (£450)yet only scores 87%? Doesn't make sense. Oh sorry, of course it's not a Canon.

Im trying to decide between this camera and the nikon d3100. Its my first slr :) Any suggestions?

But why WDC rate image quality a 17/20 score? IMHO it should at least deserve an 18/2o rating!

CrisF, Get a Pentax. You won't regret it. I have a Pentax K-x and it take much better picture than my friend's Canon or Nikon.

I`ve been using the K-R for about 5 months and am very happy with it,I went out to buy a Canon 550D but when I put it up against the K-R I was a bit surprised to see that the K-R actually took better pictures. I had to put a £600 lens on the Canon to beat the K-R with the 18-55mm lens it comes with,(which is not a very good lens).87% I think 91% would have been nearer the mark

I spent ages comparing cameras before I went for the K-r, and I am really pleased with my choice. I looked at the Canon and Nikon, but the K-r just felt right. It takes great shots, is easy to use and I would definately recommend it.

I have had a K20 and Km and loved both I also use Lightroom and Photoshop extensively and find the built in filters on the Km great when i don't want to spend ages on a computer. I will probably get a Kr just for the Built in filter options which are probably the purist way to get an image i.e. at capture stage wouldn't consider another brand apart from maybe nikon but don't fancy the hefty premium on their good lenses

I brought my K-r yesterday and I am "in love" with it already. dont regret my choice!

Nice camear but has huge front focus problems in low kelvin light. Been on sale over a year issue not fixed by Pentax

Fantastic camera ! 20/20 in my opinion....... on offer with kit lens for only £359.95 at Jessops...go and buy one !!!!!

Image quality excellent, autofocus and metering very good, excellent build quality, shutter is not noisy. 6 fps speed is excellent. Use this and some more expensive lenses and unless you need a steel pro camera and 18 Mp, it will do you proud not matter what.
