Review of the Linx Ality 8in

Pros: Image resolution, good angle of view, buil-in battery
Cons: No real need for 24 control buttons!

Manufacturer: Linx

With its large silver stand and wide-edged glossy surround, the 8in Ality frame looks more like a computer monitor than a ‘traditional’ photo frame, with touch-controls at the side adding to its sleek, futuristic styling. The techno feel spills over to an impressive remote control, housing a total of 24 buttons – a little excessive for something that’s operating a picture frame!

Despite the large overall frame size, the 8in screen itself is more modest, with a decent 800x600 pixel resolution forming its 4:3 ratio display. Images are bright and crisp, with a good angle of view, but reflections from the plastic cover can be annoying at times.

Strictly a desktop unit, neat touches include a built-in battery that will run the frame for an hour on a full-charge. This will at least get rid of the mains cable when you want to use the frame for an impromptu slideshow with friends, or a ‘digital portfolio’ style presentation. There’s also 256MB of internal memory so you can store a library of your favourite shots. Screen size: 8in diagonal (4:3 ratio)

Resolution: 800 x 600 pixels
Internal memory: 256MB
Card slots: CF / MS / SD
Picture format: JPEG
Movie format: MPEG (1,2&4)
Music format: MP3
Wall mountable: no
Free-standing: Yes
Remote control: Yes
Power: Mains / Battery

Verdict:
Decent image resolution and built-in battery make this a good bet.

Pros:
Image resolution, good angle of view, buil-in battery

Cons:
No real need for 24 control buttons!
