Olympus mju 1200 Review

The weatherproofed Olympus mju 1200 review (Olympus Stylus 1200 in the US) sports a 3x optical zoom covering 35-105mm (35mm equivalent). Using the same TruePic III image processor found in Olympus DSLRs, the camera also benefits from face detection, BrightCapture and Shadow Adjustment technologies. Sensitivity stretches from ISO 64 to 6400, although the two highest settings are only available at reduced resolution.

There are no manual controls to speak of, but 20 Scene modes and 14 Guide modes are on hand to help out in many conditions.

Image quality is somewhat underwhelming with an inherent flatness, general lack of detail, and washed-out, dull colours. Even more of a concern is the sensitive metering system that tends to underexpose. Images are at their best until ISO 200, after which detail begins to be compromised by noise.

Verdict

A good-looking compact let down on closer inspection by poor image quality and flimsy construction.
