The 10-megapixel Nikon Coolpix S600 features a 4x optical zoom, Vibration Reduction and advanced Face Detection technology.
| Pros: | Image quality, compact size. |
|---|---|
| Cons: | Plasticky buttons, poor LCD, slow in use. |
Top-of-the-Line
The S600 sits just below the top in Nikon’s Coolpix line, a little behind the S700, boasting a 10MP sensor compared to its senior’s 12MP. The common themes present on the S700 also appear on the S600, such as the boast of it being the smallest and most responsive compact camera in its class.
Features
The S600 features a 4x optical Nikkor zoom lens, alongside optical Vibration Reduction and advanced face detection. The above features come encased in a brushed steel body that is lightweight, though the buttons on the rear feel a touch plasticky, and the LCD is very difficult to see accurately in bright light.
Image Quality
In use, the S600 disappoints. Shot-to-shot and processing times are sluggish at best, though conversly, image quality is good, with highlights well controlled and a wide dynamic range displayed.
