After a couple of years' experience with this camera I am still sold on it as a convenient alternative to my DSLR, but it does have a few problems. The Auto WB is rubbish, and I have to think a lot more carefully about WB than I do with my DSLR. The RAW mode is nice to have, but it would be even nicer if it were supported by DPP, which Canon have refused to do despite my urging. The viewfinder is not good, giving a view somewhat at variance with the shot, and mine has developed an annoying fault; it does not zoom correctly. Nevertheless I would not want to put aybody off. This is still probably the best compact on the market. Both its successors have poorer specs in one respect or another; the G10 has less zoom range and the G11 has very modest resolution.

To my surprise, version 3.9.3 of DPP, released sometime during the last months of 2010, now supports the G9!
