| Pros: | Good some coverage, very affordable |
|---|---|
| Cons: | Slow focusing |
The Olympus VG-130 features a 14MP resolution sensor and 5x zoom lens that runs from a wide 26mm through to 130mm. As well as stills capture, there's also a dedicated video button for 720p HD video recording. The camera's body has quite an understated appearance and feels sturdy.
The rear 3in LCD isn't as crisp as some of the others on test and while the VG-130 offers a lot in terms of features, the menus aren't very user-friendly for a younger audience.
The VG-130 features a ‘Magic Mode' which provides filters such as ‘Fish eye', and the bizarrely-named ‘Punk'. It ranks about middle of the six on test in terms of image quality, as results are a little flat unless using some Scene modes.
The camera's macro capability is quite good allowing users to get up to 3cm away from objects, and will suit younger users who may want to explore in the garden. Focusing can be slow though, with the digital stabilisation not enough to reduce shake in some scenes.
