Replacing one of the most popular mid-range canon dslr models was never going to be easy. So has the 50D’s replacement, the Canon 60D lived up to its heritage? Our Canon EOS 60D review finds out...
| Pros: | Image quality, vari-angle screen, build quality |
|---|---|
| Cons: | Mode lock, multi-controller, number of AF points |
The Canon EOS 50D has perhaps been one of the most popular DSLR models among amateur photographers of late, and has been since its launch back in late 2008. At 15MP the only thing it lacked for many was the HD video that had now crept into almost every other EOS model.
So when its replacement, the Canon EOS 60D, was finally announced, the addition of video was all many were expecting. Not one to rest on its laurels though, Canon has developed this new model with hints of both the lower ranked 550D and its superior 7D in the mix, along with parts of the 50D.
Though many of the additions to the Canon EOS 60D have been welcomed as improvements, some people have considered its non-metal body and plethora of creative features a dumbing down of an advanced camera that now caters too much for the novice user. On top of this, its launch has coincided - within weeks - with Nikon's new D7000, a model that is pitched at almost an identical market and price.

@48Kustom. I've just made the jump from a 400D to 60D and the difference is stunning, razor sharp images, just brilliant.

In a comparison with the Sony A580 & Nikon D700 etc DXO mark paints a less than glossy picture of the 60d, J Rundle still uses his 10d, I wonder what would happen if all canon owners were asked which is better 40d or 60d ?. The same goes for the 550d vs 600d, has Canon lost it's way, burst rates are low & even the 60d's slow. Even the first generation SLT (A55) which is hundreds cheaper gives the 60d a right kicking.
