Saw the bit about puddles as a way to check the waterproof function of this camera. Not very scientific. I took this camera on holiday to Egypt to be able to use while snorkelling. Fine the first time but then the camera advised me that the "card cover" was open which it was not. Found some water in the camera but afdter drying out it seemed to be fine again. The next time in the water had the fault "clean card" appear. Cleaned the card several times but to no avail so gave up. On returning to the UK I purchased and fitted another card but the camera still showed the same "clean card" fault. Its now on the way back to Olympus for repair. I would not reccomend this camera either on the beach or in the water because of the risk of either getting sand or sea water in/on the working partsparts
