Test review of the Canon IXUS 100 IS digital camera
| Pros: | Design, slim profile, smart auto |
|---|---|
| Cons: | Tiny optical viewfinder, price |
One of the latest in Canon's highly successful, stylish IXUS range, the IXUS 100 IS is strikingly slim and available in either silver, black, red or gold.
The model doesn't scrimp on specification, cramming in a 12.1MP sensor and 3x optical zoom, complete with optical image stabilisation, into its slim profile.
The model also incorporates full HD movie capture, at a resolution of 1280x720 and 30fps, and also offers an HDMI output connector. The model also boasts the unique pair of both a 2.5in PureColor LCD screen and an optical viewfinder, although the latter is particularly small.
As with most 'lifestyle' compacts currently on the market, the IXUS 100 IS features a range of capture controls, such as motion and face detection, i-Contrast, and Smart Auto with Scene Detection technology.

I have used the Ixus 100 IS for 2 years. It has given excellent all round results, in particular macro shots. Its only failing is that although the optical viewfinder is small as one would expect. it is poorly aligned even in for infinity shots. HD video good. A fault has suddenly appeared on the sensor so has gone for repair. The same happened to my Sureshot S60!
