As one of the traditional ‘big players’ in the mobile phone market, Sony Ericsson has long been at the forefront of the development of cameraphone technology. It was one of the first manufacturers to offer handsets with a real dedicated imaging angle to them, including camera-functioning buttons and built-in flash.



The introduction of the Apple iPhone has caused the likes of Sony Ericsson to up its game, and the Xperia X10 is the latest evidence of this. The device operates on the Android platform, and features a nice  large 4in TFT LCD touchscreen with a 480 x 854 pixel resolution – the kind of screen real estate and scale that has become synonymous with this type of device. The X10 also comes with 1GB of onboard memory, and can read MicroSD cards to expand this further.



The camera functionality of the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is noteworthy, and it’s clear that Sony Ericsson has implemented its years of experience here. The handset features an 8.1MP sensor, complete with digital image stabilisation. An example of this dedicated camera functionality is the inclusion of face recognition technology, as well as a host of scene modes and several capture modifications. Unfortunately, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 doesn’t include HD video capture capabilities.

As you would expect with a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 handset, the overall look and feel of the Xperia X10’s images is good. However, shadows and highlights have a tendency to be lost and sharpness is an issue.
