French mobile phone manufacturer Sagem has overhauled its range of photo printers and come up with the attractive and diminutive Photo Easy 110. Less toaster-like than some of its rivals, its attractive white and blue finish is sure to appeal to the more image conscious consumer. The design is also the first clam shell type, so the top half opens up making it easy to fit the three colour cartridge and ribbon. As you’d expect from a mobile phone company, the device appears to be more geared to users of camera phones. Connection options include Infra Red, and optional Blue Tooth and Wi-Fi modules. For a more traditional approach, the unit also offers direct printing from a camera or computer using USB2.0. The unit is also fully PictBridge compatible. There’s also a 9-in-1 card reader slot, which doesn’t fit any camera or mobile phone card I have in my possession. The dye sub unit uses a Cyan, magenta and yellow ribbon, making three passs to print in less than a minute, so it’s quick, but also require a larger space to print than it’s small footprint would suggest as the paper travels from the front tray to the slot at the back of the machine. This isn’t unusual though, most dye subs are like this. Image Quality Print quality isn’t bad, especially if the the Crystal Image function is used. However I found prints to be a little more yellow than I’d normally like when direct from a camera (using a Canon A700). Printing from a PC is better. Mobile phone images are okay depending on the quality of the phone in the first place, but the images from my Nokia N90 didn’t compare to those of an Epson Picture Mate. On the plus side though, the cost of prints are good when using the 75 pack ribbon and paper.
