The GR Digital, we are told by Ricoh, is the first digital camera worthy to bear the illustrious GR name. High praise? The chip is an 8MP 1/1.8inch variety. It delivers images of 3264x2448 pixels in size in JPEG or RAW format The lens is a fixed-focal-length lens, normally only found on camera phones and ‘free gift’ digicams these days. Parsimony is not the reason for the fixed lens, rather it is a matter of quality and heritage. It’s easier to build great fixed-focal-length lenses than great zooms.
