Review of the Ricoh Caplio R6

Ricoh Caplio R6

Ricoh continues to impress with the design of the R6. This sexy slimline model not only incorporates a 2.7in LCD screen and 7MP sensor within its compact body, but also fits in a 7x optical zoom lens, which quickly extracts on start-up to provide 28mm to 200mm of pure zoom power.
On top of that, the CCD-shift system offers essential camera shake correction, while a host of modes provide Ricoh’s usual standard of care. Face recognition, something fast gaining popularity this year, also features in the spec.
The camera is tough and feels comfy, with a clean, easy-to-use layout, a bright LCD screen and a clear menu system. It’s not the fastest focusing camera, but once the image is locked the camera’s shutter is quick and ready for the next shot. The lens performs well, but image noise rapidly enters the equation over ISO 100 and is intrusive after ISO 400. Colour and exposure are pleasing though.

Our Verdict
A solid performance and an impressive lens make the R6 a compact to consider.
