Review of the Epson Perfection V750 Pro

Epson Perfection V750 Pro

Epson V750
RRP £549 www.epson.co.uk Epson has just introduced its latest scanner the V750, following hard on the heels of the excellent V700. From the outside both scanners seem to be identical. Both have dual lenses, one for High resolution scanning (4800ppi) and the other for Super resolution scanning (6400ppi). The main differences are with the optics and bundled software. The V750 has a High Pass Optics system for improved scanning speed and image quality. The V750 also has an Anti-Refl ection Optical Coating to reduce refl ection and ghosting. Faster scanning speeds are achieved with a high-refl ection mirror that improves the refl ection of the scanned light. The V750 is supplied with Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 (odd choice given that this is a professional quality scanner), the full version of SilverFast Ai6 and Monaco Ezcolor. The thing that makes both scanners stand out from the competition is the optional Fluid Mount Accessory (FMA). The FMA enables you to wet mount large and medium format fi lm for perfectly fl at fi lm scans. The Epson Fluid Mount Accessory is a two-piece unit: the base and the glass holder. Place a few drops of Kami mounting fl uid on the glass holder, place fi lm on this, squeeze out the air bubbles and seal the fi lm in with an acetate sheet (Mylar). Once the fi lm has been loaded the top glass section is placed on the scanner platen and scans are made in the usual manner. The holder is a well-built item but, unlike the other Epson fi lm holders, it has no height adjusters.
