Main Review

Unlike its cheaper R265 sibling, the Epson Stylus R360 is not short on features. It sports a huge, though non-tilting, 3.5in colour status and preview screen, direct printing from memory cards via built-in slots, as well as PictBridge, support for printing onto CDs and it comes with an interesting software bundle, Epson Creativity Suite, which even has support for processing camera Raw format image files. Bluetooth is an optional extra. But under the skin, the R360 has exactly the same six-colour print engine as the R265. This means that print speed is adequate, rather than exceptional, though print quality is crisp and punchy, with good colour, if at the expense of some shadow details. Best-quality borderless A4 photos take just over five minutes, though we’d advise using the standard mode which produces prints in just over two minutes with little discernible loss in quality. Depending on the quality setting you can have borderless 6x4s in just over two minutes or just 30 seconds and, again, the faster print compares well with the slower one.

The main disappointment with both the R360 and the R265 is a tendency to over-darken shadows. A custom printer profile would certainly fix that and potentially deliver good print quality. But of course printer profiling isn’t for everyone and shadow detail should be better to start with.

Verdict

Good features for the money with crisp prints though shadow detail is a disappointment
