Main Review

If you are looking for a no-nonsense camera that’s easy to use, then Canon’s A460 may well be the camera for you. It’s a 5MP camera, which is comparatively low these days. Image quality, however, is just as good, confirming the assertion that more pixels don’t necessarily mean better-quality prints. The A460 has the advantage of having an optical viewfinder and this is a particular advantage as the 2 in LCD screen is disappointing. A maximum ISO of 400 isn’t particularly special, but the super macro mode is good, allowing you to focus down to 1cm. The fast five-point AF system is quick to record images to the SD card and, as you would expect from Canon, the pictures are well exposed with accurate colour rendition.

Verdict

When buying one of the cameras you need to bear in mind that they are the manufacturers’ entry-level models and they will lack certain features available on cameras with a higher price. Having said that, it offers a good range of options for the price.
