What Digital Camera Christmas gift wishlist...
- Tue, 13 Nov 2012
With the festive season only a few weeks away, one of the hot topics we've been discussing are the photo-related gifts we'd like to receive this Christmas. A new camera isn't on everyone's wish list and some members of the team decided to choose a useful accessory instead. It's very unlikely any of us will receive these presents, but if money was no object these are the products we'd love to be unwrapping on Christmas day.

I've always been an SLR user but I also miss the very different user experience offered by my old Leica M4. Fujifilm's X Pro 1 was an excellent first stab at a more affordable, digital reinvention of the M series, but I think I'd prefer to find the smaller and lighter (and cheaper) XE-1 in my Xmas stocking.

I'd love to unwrap a Zeiss ZF.2 85mm f/1.4 lens. While it's incredibly expensive and MF, I love the premium finish and the superbly balanced manual focus ring. Most of all I love the quality of the images it delivers and the ultra shallow depth-of-field results it produces.

While it's incredibly expensive, Apple's 15in Macbook Pro with Retina display is a thing of beauty, and that's before you've even switched it on. For image editing, the Retina display is incredible - it's so sharp, with excellent clarity and contrast.

A new lens might be an obvious wish-list choice, but I can't think of any piece of kit I'd rather receive than a Nikkor AF-S 14-24 f/2.8 G ED. Big and heavy it may be, but its ultra wide angle of view would benefit cityscapes and allow for some striking long exposures.

I'd love to receive a Canon EOS M. I've been on the lookout for a smaller CSC to complement my DSLR but there's nothing else out there that'll fit in my jacket pocket and let me attach my selection of EF lenses from my kit bag when I'm not using my EOS 5D Mark III.
