What does the future hold at Photokina 2012?
Olympus
Amid the turbulence of recent events, Olympus has scored an unexpected smash with its recent OM-D EM-5 model - and its name suggests the line may welcome future models pitched both above and below it.
Its focus has recently been moving away from the E-system DSLR line and very much towards its mirrorless offerings. So it seems entirely likely that the company will announce a more affordable OM-D stablemate in the near future, particularly given the wide price gap between that camera and its more affordable Pen offerings.
Despite this, Olympus has pledged to continue catering for Four Thirds users, although it hasn't specified whether this would be in the shape of new bodies or optics. With its mirrorless lines meeting the needs of novices and enthusiasts, a replacement for its only current DSLR - the well-received E-5 - would be more than welcome.
Samples of the new 75mm f/1.8 are also likely to be available at Photokina. Despite its £800 price tag, its clean, understated metal casing and the promise of high performance has meant that it's already generated much interest among Micro Four Thirds and Panasonic G-series enthusiasts.
