Best semi-pro DSLRs 2012
Prosumer DSLRs: best for high-end enthusiasts or the semi-pro photographer
Semi-pro or 'prosumer' are two terms used interchangably to describe DSLRs that not only produce top image quality, but deliver a series of features more closely associated with professional shooting. Whether that's a faster burst mode or tougher build quality to survive whatever's thrown at it, these semi-pro models deliver on all fronts. There're plenty of prosumer models on the market for around £1000 a piece, though price drops throughout 2012 mean many of these semi-pro DSLR models are more easily affordable. Here're our best semi-pro DSLRs for 2012...
1. Canon EOS 7D
£1179 body only
One of 2010's best cameras, the EOS 7D continues its 2011 dominance by bringing a serious spec list within consumer reach. The 7D's 18MP CMOS sensor makes for resolute images, while the 19 cross-type AF points ensure accurate autofocus at up to 8fps. Full 1080p HD movie and a magnesium alloy body with environmental protection polish off this excellent package.

£799 body only
Highly anticipated, Nikon's D7000 semi pro DSLR has so many top features you'll want to take a deep breath: including a 16.2MP sensor, 100% viewfinder coverage, 6fps continuous shooting, Full 1080p HD movie recording and a 3in, 920k-dot LCD screen. Since its launch last October the price has continued to drop to a now very affordable sub-£800 price point.

3. Sony Alpha SLT-A77
£1149 body only
Although not a DSLR, Sony's latest SLT (Single Lens Translucent) camera more than gives its competitors a run for their money. A true 2011 hero thanks to its up-to-the-minute technology including a 2.4million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder (EVF) that's quite unlike any we've ever seen. Add an incredible continuous autofocus system that works at a staggering 12fps and a weather-sealed body and it's no wonder this SLT is in our semi-pro category.
