The Samsung NX1 has some amazing features which look set to make it one of the best cameras of 2014

As is ever the case, this year’s Photokina saw a wide range of new cameras launched, all competing for the attention of photo enthusiasts and journalists alike.

While many of the models seemed to be incremental improvements on their predecessors, few grabbed the attention of the assembled masses quite like the Samsung NX1.

The new model looks set to announce Samsung back on the enthusiast digital camera scene with a range of class-leading features including a world first sensor technology.

The world first in question is the NX1’s back side illuminated (BSI) APS-C chip. Previously BSI technology had been limited to sensors up to and including 1in in size, and therefore enthusiast compacts.

However, Samsung has managed to engineer the 28MP APS-C CMOS sensor in the NX1 in such a way that it now includes the technology, and as such it should excel in low light conditions.

That’s not where the advanced specification ends, however, as the NX1 is also capable of rattling off images at a rate of 15fps in continuous shooting mode, while it also supports Ultra-HD 4K video capture. The hybrid AF system boasts some 153 cross-type AF points as well, meaning that continuous focusing shouldn’t be an issue.

All in, it look like a very impressive camera on paper. So, how does it fair when out shooting? You can make your own mind up in our Samsung NX1 review sample image gallery.
